I got to ask is this a good combo?

A mate of mine who's played longer than me says that it sucks like hell.

What do you guys think? scratch

I think they have too much in common and that their styles disable many of their unique skills. Bad combo in my opinion, much like an Rt/Mo.

How do you mean they have to much in common?

Ones a melee fighter the other fights from long distance.

Both have a lot of weapon based skills. This means that you either use a melee weapon and pass on all the marksmanship and preperation skills of the ranger, or you go for the bow, and miss out on all the melee skills of the warrior.
As for the supporting skills, both have running skills and self healing skills, which in my book is a bit of a waste, as you won't be using both.

I see
what about a Ranger/Elementalist or vice versa?

They're considered to be a reasonably good combo, though I've never seriously tried one.

i also think that r/w isnt the best of choices.
what i usually do is i go on pvp and try out what technique i wud possibly use with the profs. (u wil hav 2 hav a few skills for each profession tho! rabbit ) i would recommend possibly r/me, unless u r going for a BM (beast master) then u want r/mo.
as far as the r/e or e/r goes, i have tried r/e nd thats ok if ur an earth ele, but if u r goin for the more energy consumpting skills then e/r is great. especially as u can get the skill "energising winds" from your ranger, its a great combo for any ele, especially hydro and pyro.
